Bolster Your BoostSuite Keyword Inventory with Google Webmaster Tools

|

Back in March, we revealed our new Keyword Candidate and Keyword Opportunity Suggestions. These features help you identify the highest opportunity keywords specific to your business. In other words, we tell you exactly what you need to write about to attract more visitors and customers to your website.

About a month ago, we announced the revamp of our Keywords Interface in the BoostSuite application. Now it shows you the importance and value of each keyword your visitors use to find your website in the search engines. Each keyword now has a star rating associated with it. The rating is based on online search competition level (low is better) along with monthly search volume (higher is better).

The better the match of those criteria, the more stars you’ll see for each keyword. We also show the number of conversions and visitors each keyword has produced on your website, as well as the number of pages on your site that are currently being optimized for each keyword.

These features are great for all you small business marketers out there, but there’s one issue that needs to be addressed…

You need to be able to add additional keywords to your account easily so BoostSuite can analyze them for you.

For example, let’s say you sign up for a BoostSuite account. We will automatically crawl each of your pages looking for keywords on them. We also give you the opportunity to add more keywords to your account immediately with the Keyword Candidate suggestion. But what if you don’t have any keywords on your website AND you did not add at least 25 unique keywords to the Keyword Candidate suggestion? BoostSuite could be telling you to apply irrelevant/low-value keywords to your pages, which isn’t good. If you haven’t installed your BoostSuite tracking code, we have NO WAY of finding new keywords from your search engine traffic.

You want to have at least 30-50 unique keywords in your keyword list because BoostSuite will only show you the top 25 at any given point.

If this is the case and you want to find and target more valuable keywords for your next blog posts, you still have a cool way of populating your keyword list so BoostSuite can analyze them with our new “Add Keywords to Analyze” feature. You can access this feature by logging into your account, hover over the “Boost” tab, then click “Keywords”. You’ll see the button near the top of the Keywords interface (see screenshot below).

Use Your Google Webmaster Tools Account To Populate Your Keyword List

If you have a Google Webmaster Tools account, you can acquire a complete list of keywords that you have ranked for in Google at some point to add to your BoostSuite account.

To get this list, log into your Google Webmaster Tools account, click on your website’s link, then go to Search Traffic > Search Queries > then click the “Download this table” button. You can also increase the date range (in the top right corner like Google Analytics) to go back to get all keywords over a long period of time.

BoostSuite will analyze all of these new keywords so you will have a stockpile to move forward with in your content marketing strategy. Each week, BoostSuite will re-analyze your website and find the newest, top 25 keyword opportunities. You will always have the freshest keywords/topics, guaranteed to be the right subjects to bring you more qualified traffic. You will no longer have to try to figure out what to write about each week. BoostSuite is your website content writing assistant!

Cool, right?

If you’re looking to find more keywords and have a Google Analytics account, I suggest following KISSMetric’s advice and unlocking all your “not provided” keywords. Once you have those keywords, follow the same steps as above and add them to your BoostSuite account to be analyzed as well!

You can never have too many keywords in your account. In fact, the more, the better. If you need to find even more keywords, check out this handy list of 60+ Keyword Research Tool Alternatives from the Small Business Ideas Blog.
